How is Auto Body Damage Repaired?
As you drive your vehicle it is regularly exposed to many things that can cause body damage ranging from a small ding or scratch to a bent frame. While it is unfortunately impossible to prevent all accidents from happening, a good auto body repair shop can make it appear like they never occurred. Here is a quick list of some of the more common types of auto body damage and how it is repaired.
Probably the most common body damage of vehicles are paint scratches. Door dings, shopping cart bumps, unseen mailbox stands and more all contribute to the possibility of either a minor or major paint scratch. Luckily, scratches are fairly easy to repair. If they aren't too deep they can generally be buffed out. Larger scratches may require body filler and repainting of the affected area.
Dings and Dents
Small dings and dents generally won't cause damage to your vehicle's paint. This means they can be pulled using a paintless dent removal technique. This is done by a technician using a special set of tools to tap the dent out from the back until the body panel is restored. If the paint is damaged or if it is a rather large dent other techniques can be used, including drilling a hole and pulling the dent, then using body filler and fresh paint.
Weather Related Damage
Automobiles are regularly exposed to the elements as they sit outside in parking lots and driveways and while driving down the highway. Excessive moisture over can eventually cause rust problems and the sun can damage paint. Most damage caused by weather is usually is usually not prominent over the whole car, but held to a certain spot. The damage can be usually be repaired by sanding and repainting the affected area or if the rust has ate away at the metal it may need to be cut away and replaced.
Even impacts at slow speeds can cause major damage to vehicles. One of the biggest concerns in regard to vehicle damage following a collision is a bent frame. Using a high tech machine frames can be pulled straight and returned to their original specifications to ensure a safe vehicle.
If your car has suffered any sort of auto body damage don't delay having it repaired. Scratches or other paint damage can begin to rust, causing even bigger issues for your vehicle, and following a collision, even with minimal visible damage, it may be dangerous to drive your vehicle.
